Small lifts compound. Going from 2.5% to 4% is a 60% jump in sales from the same traffic.
How the conversion rate calculator works
This conversion rate calculator takes two numbers - your visitors (or leads) and your conversions - and divides one by the other to give you a clean percentage. It then multiplies your conversions by your average deal value to show what your current traffic is actually worth in dollars.
The target rate slider lets you set a goal and instantly see the impact. If you have 1,000 visitors a month and want to move from 2.5% to 4%, you go from 25 sales to 40. On a $500 deal that's an extra $7,500 a month - from the exact same traffic, with no increase in ad spend.
Conversion rate is one of the most powerful numbers in any business. Most teams focus on getting more traffic. The smarter move is usually to convert more of what's already arriving.
What counts as a good conversion rate
It depends on the channel and what you're asking people to do. General benchmarks for Australian businesses:
- Homepage to enquiry: 1 to 3% is typical; above 5% is strong
- Landing page (paid traffic): 3 to 8% for a well-targeted offer
- Lead nurture email to booking: 5 to 15%, depending on list quality
- Free trial to paid: 15 to 30% for a well-onboarded SaaS product
The most useful benchmark is your own trend. A jump from 2% to 3% is a 50% increase in sales from the same traffic spend. That kind of lift is realistic and repeatable once you know where the drop-offs are.
How to lift your conversion rate
Three areas move the needle most reliably for small and medium businesses:
Faster lead response. Responding to an enquiry within 5 minutes makes you 9x more likely to convert than responding after 30 minutes. Most businesses respond in hours. Automating your first response with a personalised message and a booking link is one of the quickest wins available. See our lead response time calculator to see what slow response is costing you.
Automated follow-up nurture. Most leads don't buy on the first touch. A short automated sequence - 3 to 5 messages over 2 weeks - keeps you front of mind without manual effort. The businesses that do this consistently outconvert those that don't by a factor of 2 to 3. You can pair that with your cost per lead to see the full picture of what each enquiry is worth to you.
Fewer drop-offs in the process. Audit every step between "interested" and "paid". Long forms, unclear pricing, slow pages, missing social proof - each one costs you a slice of the people who were ready to buy. Fix the biggest friction point first and measure the lift before moving to the next.
